本書は多様化した現在の言語学界の状況を踏まえ、言語理論、言語獲得理論から厳選したキーターム解説と名著解題を企図した書である。執筆者は2023年3月を以って宮城学院女子大学英文学科を退職される遊佐典昭教授及び厚誼のある46名。取り上げられている項目はどれも必須のものであり、読者には「簡にして要を得た」キータームや名著解題を読了することによって、現在の言語理論、言語獲得理論の眺望が容易に理解できるはずである。
