This study in English of Hegel's political philosophy presents an overall view of the development of Hegel's political thinking. The author has drawn on Hegel's philosophical works, his political tracts and his personal correspondence. Professor Avineri shows that although Hegel is primarily thought of as a philosopher of the state, he was much concerned with social problems and his concept of the state must be understood in this context.

Great book with emphasis on the political philosophy of G. W. F. Hegel. If you have read the apparently devastating critique by Karl Popper in his "Open Society and its Enemies" or by Bertrand Russell in his different writings (for example in his "History of Western Philosophy", book 3, ch. 22) of Hegel's political philosophy, you definitely should read this book as counterweight.

Do not buy the Kindle edition. Not only is it a print replica, it cannot even be highlighted. Cambridge University Press really needs to raise its ebook game. It's currently in a terrible state!
