Wide-ranging and authoritative, this bestselling sociology dictionary is the most informative of its kind. Compiled by a team of sociological experts, under the editorship of Gordon Marshall and John Scott, it is packed with over 2,500 entries. With terms taken from sociology and the related fields of psychology, economics, anthropology, philosophy, and political science, it provides widespread coverage of all aspects of sociology, from adaptation to zero tolerance . It also contains biographies covering key figures, such as Gilles Deleuze and Erich Fromm. Jargon-free entries are elaborated with clear descriptions and in-depth analysis, many using real-life examples, making even the most complicated subjects easy to understand.

This new edition has been revised to bring the dictionary completely up-to-date, while retaining the concise, clear quality of previous editions. Now boasting many entry-level web links, accessible via the
Dictionary of Sociology companion website, this dictionary offers more relevant and useful information than ever before.

An invaluable introduction to sociology for beginners, and a key reference work for more advanced students, teachers, and professionals working with sociology and related fields.

レビュー

Readers and especially beginning readers of sociology can scarcely do better than turn to this dictionary. There is no better single-volume compilation for an up-to-date, readable and authoritative source of definitions, summaries and references in contemporary sociology (A. H. Halsey)

A good full sociology dictionary and it is a 2009 revised edition. It is not like our normal English Language Dictionary in presentation but simple and understanding for everyone. Just like any other non-language Dictionary.
Should be the original USA version.
Good quality acid free paper, little heavy like other oxford dictionary.
It is bigger than the Penguin's, other than that I do not have Penguin version so cannot compare the inside material.
Started with some words to just go through and I found all and simple. For any sociology subject enthusiasts, I think this one is a good source of understanding from sociology point. My sister is doing her M.A in Sociology and I bought for her and she too shares the same views and is excited!

Many academic majors at accredited campuses across the USA are requiring a "writing in the discipline course." One component of effective writing is possessing an effective discipline specific vocabulary. Since I am teaching this course, I have reviewed various sociology dictionaries. I found the Oxford dictionary the best. As a result, I have adopted it for my course.

Oxford Dictionary of Sociology contains clear, full-content definitions for concepts. If the dictionary contained pictures of sociologists it would be a nice production. pl consider in future editions, reprints
