Distributedobjecttechnologies-asexempli?edbyCORBAandtheCORBA Services,COM+,EJB,andtheJ2EE-areincreasinglybeingadoptedbyvarious enterprisesasafundamentaltechnologyfortheirITinfrastructures. Asacon- quence,extensiveindustrypracticeofusingthetechnologiesisbeinggained. At thesametime,thetechnologiescontinuetoadvanceandnewfunctionalityand servicescontinuetobeintroduced. Inordertousetheexistingandemergingfunctionsofdistributedobjectte- nologiese?ectively,andtobettermeettoday'sdemandingbusinessandcomp- ingrequirements,advancesinsoftwareengineeringmethodsandtechniquesfor distributedobjectsarestronglyneeded. Softwareengineeringfordistributed- jectsistheresearchareathatprovidessolutionsofprovenpracticeforissuesand problemsthatareuniquetosystemsemployingdistributedobjecttechnologies. EDOis the premierworkshopthatbringstogetherthe researchandpractice communityofsoftwareengineeringfordistributedobjects. Wereceivedabout30submissionsandtheinternationalprogramcommittee selected15papers.
Weclusteredacceptedpapersintosessionsandtheauthors ofthesepaperschampionedthesessionsandtookaleadinthediscussions. The workshoporganizersselectedparticularauthorstogivebriefpresentationsthat wereaimedtokicko?thediscussionineachsession. Theresultofthedi?erent sessionswassummarizedattheendoftheworkshopandthesesessionsummaries areincludedintheseproceedings. Alsointraditionwiththeworkshopseries,wehadaninvitedindustrialp- sentation.
